Review

Story

The movie starts with Ileana committing suicide by hanging herself to death.

Abhi (Rana) is a professional shooter. Meenakshi (Ileana) is a cute girl who works in a coffee shop. She has the typical hobby of shooting the real suicides and upload in youtube. 

The reason for Abhi becoming a shooter is the deaths of his parents in the hands of a cruel gangster named Rathna (Abhimanyu Singh). And the reason for Meenakshi to record the suicides in video is similar to that of Abhi.

An inspector (Subbaraju) investigates into this anonymous up loader of videos. He has a little daughter who gets close to Abhi, being neighbor. This little girl delivers a few punch dialogues which are true and to be underlined.

Abhi falls in Meenakshi’s love. With the series of happenings, who remains at last will form the rest of the story. Who commits suicide? Is the lady who committed suicide in the beginning is Meenakshi? What happens to Abhi? What happens to the little girl? To know answers, watch on big screen.

Artists Performance:

Rana’s looks are matchless and needless to say again and again indeed. But he has to groom his energy levels in acting, expressions and gait. There is no other way than gaining experience in doing films continuously. He has no dancing material in him and that is not a minus point at all for an actor. He can stand as great actor even though not a good dancer. All that he has to do is gaining confidence and showing energy levels in his trade mark style.

Ileana is ok with her hour glass figure but she is remembered as a rough minded lady in this film than as a Cupid’s arrow.

Subbaraju is perfect as Cop but he has minimal role.

Mumaith Khan appears in a special role like a vamp but preaches the materialistic way of living in a song.

Ali managed to entertain audiences with his typical histrionics. Abhimanyu Singh is ok with his villainy.

Music is the plus point in this film and songs made audiences glue to seats. Background score by Anup Rubens gave a different feel for the film.

This is a higher level script that can go well only with intellectuals. Regular audiences cannot call this an entertainer.

Final Analysis:

Both hero and heroine in this movie are shooters. While hero shoots with gun, heroine shoots with camera. While the hero shoots to kill the living, the heroine shoots to record the killing. It’s a pseudo thought tried to add a genuine color to it. The movie show cases cruelty in the disguise of reality. One needs to watch this movie with brain to understand that ‘reality’ and otherwise it sounds to be cruel.

This is the film made in the genre of filmnoir. The lead character in the film is Ileana with her cynical attitude on suicides. It is indeed difficult for Telugu audiences to digest such a character in a heroine. She neither opposes nor supports suicide but loves to shoot the individuals those commit suicide. Eerie!!!

First half of the film runs well with typical characters and takes off smooth. But the second half suffers severe turbulences and audiences start getting suffocated. Although the character introduction of heroine is shooting the real deaths, there is no convincing end for her character even with her flash back. Well, it may appeal for those minds which have undergone real suicidal tendencies and made failed attempts. What the director wants to convey is blunt and rude. There are four characters in the movie those have come out in four dimensions from the thought process of the director.

* Live as you like and keep away the concept of sin and virtue (from the character of Mumaith Khan)
* If somebody is paining you and bringing suicidal tendencies in you, make yourself strong. Don’t revolt on them and just live your life rudely (from the character of Surya)
* If you feel your accomplishments are done and there is no one personal for you, then end your life (from the character of Rana)
* Suicides are not meaningless. They have great meaning (from the character of Ileana).

This is the typical character chart and thought line incorporated in the movie on broader scale.

These ideas are indeed cynical and hypothetical. What the director is wishing by making this movie? Is he asking the Law to make Suicides legal? Is he appealing for those who are inclined to commit suicide to carry on with their act? Is he wishing to make people strong or weak?

To answer one by one, recently the Supreme Court has suggested counseling the individuals those attempt suicide but not punish them.

Coming to next question, yes, the people those are on boarder line to commit suicide will commit it for sure. They lose ray of hope in life. (Director Ji!! Please recall Sri Sri’s song ‘kala kaanidi viluvainadi..bathuku kanneeti dhaarala thone bali cheyyaku…That song pumped hope in many hearts. They have approached Sri Sri thanking for the song that brought them back from suicidal tendency)

This film will not affect the strong people. It will affect the weak hearts by weakening them further.

This will not go well with B, C centers and A center audience try to understand the essence in this movie patiently with their heads. This is a kind of art film with commercial budget. This can be sent to film festivals and big headed critical critics may say some good lines about it out of obligations! It is a risky attempt business wise.

What's it about!
A professional killer Abhi (Rana) falls off for the charms of a beauty Meenkashi (Ileana) who works at a cafeteria. A rowdy harasses her and Abhi kills the guy too. On the other hand, a person is secretly uploading videos of people who kill themselves on to you tube. The person turns out to be Meenakshi. And a police officer (Subbaraju) is on the look out for the person who is uploading these videos. What makes Abhi turn into a professional killer? And what prompts Meenakshi to upload these videos? And how does their love story begin? These questions are revealed in the later part of the story. 

Analysis

Nenu Naa Rakshasi is an experimental movie with eccentric storyline. Puri Jagannadh who is known for churning out masala potboilers has chosen a subject that is hardly digestible to regular movie going audiences. It starts off well but post interval scenes really test the patience. 

Suicides are topical issues. But heroine putting up videos of suicide attempts onto Youtube completely sidelines the issue, whatever be the director's intention. 

A professional killer falling in love with a girl who records the suicides and herself is planning to end life is pretty novel idea. There is right conflict and lot of scope to weave a different love story. Freshness in the subject is clearly evident and he fairly succeeds in presenting it novel way till the interval, but the director soon falls into his regular mode. That kills the movie. Puri Jagannadh holds the audiences' interest till the interval, as the reason for such unusual behavior of the lead characters was kept in secret. Once the lid is off, it pretty soon falters. To just fill the run time, the director (and he's writer too) has filled up with clichéd scenes, and cheap comedy sequences in the second half. As the film progresses, you feel boredom. Added to that cheap and vulgar comedy track between Ali and Mumait Khan further irritates. Climax, again, is pretty predictable. 

Performances

Rana has tall body and is easy on eyes but he lacks performance skills. He looked good in his debut movie Leader because of that subtle characterization whereas this role requires high energy levels, which he lacks. Style wise, he's okay. 

Ileana looks gorgeous in songs and she also performs well in some key scenes. Abhimanyu Singh as villain, Subbaraju as cop, and Kota in a cameo appearance do justice to their roles. 

Amol Rathod's cinematography is splendid. His hues and blurrs are fantastic. Viswa and Rehman have composed songs, they are catchy but rip-off old western songs. Not much to say about other technical departments. 

As a director, Puri shows his maturity in handling of several scenes. He pens equally interesting dialogue. Yet, he is letdown by his own screenplay post interval. 

Bottom-line

Though Puri picks up novel storyline, the movie is hardly digestible to regular audiences. Discerning audiences can see the merits in the first half, but again the second half spoils all the brownie points it has in the beginning. As the film progresses, Nenu Naa Rakashasi gets dreary and monotonous. A very eccentric thought told in bad way.

Nitin In Guest Role in S.S Rajmouli Movie

Actor Nitin, who is still waiting eagerly for a hit, now has got a propitious chance to prove his mettle.

Ace director of tollywood S.S Rajamouli, is busy filming “Eega”, is all set to bring Nitin back in next movie.

It is known that, after wrapping “Eega”, S.S Rajamouli is all set to make a movie, where, Nitin has been offered to play guest role. With this Nitin gave an immediate nod.

The movie is to be produced by Rajamouli’s Mentor K. Raghavendra Rao.

None of them are reluctant to reveal to the details of it.

Vinayak and Charan film confirmed

Ram Charan's Rachcha, in the direction of Sampath Nandi, is yet to go to the sets but story discussions are in full swing for director V V Vinayak's next movie with Ram Charan. Akula Shiva, a regular writer with Vinayak, has already prepared a basic plot for this movie and is currently developing the script.

 Vinayak is now filming last portions of his film Badrinath starring Allu Arjun. Soon after the release of this movie in June, Vinayak will begin shooting Ram Charan's flick, sources told.

Vinayak made blockbuster Tagore with Chiranjeevi earlier and now he is brought in to give another blockbuster to Chiru's son. This will be his fourth film with a hero from mega family. 

Status on 'Rachcha'

On the other hand, director Sampath Nandi is now giving final touches to his script with the writers duo Parachuri Brothers.

Veera's music launch next week

Ravi Teja, Kajal and Tapsee starrer Veera will have its music launch in the first week of May. The movie is produced by Ganesh Indukuri and directed by Ramesh Varma. It is in the last leg of shooting. "We are filming climax sequences now and will head to Europe on April 30 to picturise two songs on Ravi Teja and Kajal," Ganesh Indukuri said in a press statement.

The film has music by Taman. Movie is set for grand release in the first week of June.

Reema Sen and V N Aditya back together

Nearly after a decade director V N Aditya is directing Reema Sen again. Reema Sen has just signed Aditya's new film, which is to be produced by a big producer. She acted in Aditya's debut movie Manasantha Nuvve (2001) and it was a big blockbuster. The director has now written an interesting script that will be shot mainly on foreign shores and Reema Sen has immediately signed the movie when Adiyta called on her for this movie.

Male lead of the movie is still being kept under wraps but buzz is that Sraddha Das and Sanjana also would be in the flick.

Now a film on Sathya Sai Baba

Spiritual Guru Sathya Sai Baba will live on silver screen now.  CC Motion Pictures Limited (CCMPL), a corporate production house, is launching its production in association with the makers of successful Telugu film 'Mantra' and they are going to produce a film on the life of Sathya Sai Baba. The film will be made on large scale. Cast and crew will be announced shortly.

First Look: Rajnikant's trilingual RANA

Here is the first look of Rajinikant's next movie, Rana, to be made in three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The first look poster was released to the media by the producers - Eros International and Rajnikant's daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth.

The film will start its regular shoot from this Friday, April 29, 2011. Deepika Padukone is the main heroine while Ileana is playing other female lead. The film has cinematography by R Rathnavelu and music by A R Rahman.

Writer Gandham Nagaraju passed away

Writer Gandham Nagaraju (42) who shot to fame with his dialogues for the cult hit, Gamyam, is died of illness. He was going treatment for liver-related diseases at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad. On Wednesday morning, he passed away. He was born and brought up in Narasaraopet and his father Gandham Yagnavalkya Sarma was also famous writer.

Nagaraju started his career as a playwright with President Perayya, and he went on to write more plays, prizewinning stories and novels. One of his plays based on his real-life experiences as the Principal-in-charge at a college in Khammam led to the point where director Krish approached him for Gamyam.

Gandham Nagaraju's thought-provoking dialogues with a touch of wit got him good name. He wrote for films like Baanam, Inko Saari, Betting Bangrraju, and Gaaayam-2. He also worked in script of Sontha Ooru, another award-winning movie.

It is sad that two of technicians involved with the film Gamyam have passed away in short span of time. Just last week Anil R, who composed music for the film, also died of heart attack.

Badrinath’s dilemma: May 27 or June 3!

Allu Arjun and V Vinayak’s big budget extravaganza, Badrinath, will resuming its remaining shoot from April 28th. Only two songs and couple of scenes are remained to film. So producer Allu Aravind is mulling over the film’s release date. If the post production work is finished fast it will hit the screens on May 27. If not, the film will go for June 3rd date.

M M Keeravani's songs will be unveiled in the first week of May. 

Badrinath is penned by Chinnikrishna who also wrote script for Allu Arjun’s Gangotri, Chiranjeevi’s Indra, and Balakrishna’s Narasinha Naidu.

Jr.NTR Shakti Censor Talk and Report : First on Net

Jr. NTR Telugu and Ileana starring in the upcoming fantasy film social-shakti, cleaned the sensor formalities today (i.e., March 24, 2011). The Sensor Board is cleaned film with certificates and suggest some cuts.

Magnum opus of NTR Jr. Sakthi which is expected to be released on April 1 was cleared by the censors. As usual in Tollywood, the initial report, which is widely known as censor report is making rounds at film nagar at the moment.

According to the report, Shakti is not up to the mark. The flashback which is being heavily hyped by the Director and the producer not to sign it seems. Ramesh Meher failed to deal with the subject of a high voltage with a large range, the report said. They concluded that Sakthi may not meet expectations and given a large budget, a buyer must find it difficult!

However, Jr. NTR fans need not worry about this. There are many examples in the past, where such reports were shown to the wrong audience. After all, only the audience you counts and he is the final judge.

Rana in 'Nenu Naa Rakshasi'

Rana is hogging all the limelight thanks to his Hindi film debut Dum Maaro Dum and his forthcoming film in Telugu - Nenu Naa Rakshasi. He is in news recently with alleged affairs with couple of heroines. As his second film in Telugu is hitting the screens, he talks about the movie and these affairs. 

What is Nenu Naa Rakshasi all about?

It is romantic thriller. Genre specific movie. Uniqueness of the subject drew me into this film. Puri Jagannadh narrated the story with in detail over a dinner at a restaurant in Hyderabad. After coming back from the dinner, I sat down and wrote his narration into several scenes. They turned out to be more than 40 scenes and then I realized that none of them have any resemblance of the movies that I have seen in my life. I am avid film buff and watched innumerous movies in all languages, so I easily find references when I watch a Telugu film but in the case of this subject I couldn’t find any.

What is your role?

I play the role of an assassin. Ileana plays the role of a girl with dark past, grappling with demons in her mind. 

The film deals with suicides?

Well, it deals with that problem but the movie is character driven thriller. The characters have darker pasts. We came to know with a news report that rate of suicides is high in India. So this subject is topical and has touch of sensitivity too. In fact, I was shocked to know that both Ileana and Puri went through a phase in their life that prompted them to think of attempting suicide. 

Puri is known for making commercial entertainers but you people have been promoting the movie as an unique movie!

We don’t want the people to come to theaters with wrong assumptions. We should show in trailers and promote the movie what it offers, should not cheat them with false claims like it is mass masala entertainer. It is completely genre oriented flick. 



You have worked with two of the hottest heroines - Bipasha in Dum Maaro Dum and Ileana in Nenu Naa Rakshasi. And there are so many rumors too. 

Bips is senior actress – both in experience and in age. But we bonded well during the shoot. I respect her. Definitely she is hot heroine but there is nothing between us. There were just rumors. Regarding Ileana, I was actually blown away seeing some rushes of her performances. Puri began shooting the movie with her initially before I joined the shoot. Like everyone else, I thought she’s all about beauty but was surprised seeing the other side – her acting abilities. I have never met her before this movie but we jelled well as she is younger girl though she’s senior actress. 

Is marriage on the cards?

No. Not thinking of it now.

Any kiss scenes in the Nenu Naa Rakshasi?

No. 



Padithinammo song in the film is just copy of Michael Jackson’s ‘Leave Me Alone’. What’s your comment on it? 
Yes, someone told me. I am not aware of it when I heard for the first time. I loved that song and it is foot-tapping. Regarding copying Michael Jackson's song, it is better to ask the music directors. 

Any dream projects?

I have two dream projects - one is to do a period film and the other one is to do a Tamil film. I am seriously trying to do Tamil movie, as Tamil is the language that I first learnt since I was born and brought up in Chennai. 

What happened to Selva Raghavan film?

We are planning but nothing is working out.

RGV has been delivering duds. Are you not apprehensive of doing his movie?

Even Steven Spielberg gave many flops. Manirathnam also gave some duds. But that doesn’t lessen their greatness. Ram Gopal Varma is one of the all time great directors irrespective of fate of his films at Box-office. I have grown up watching his great movies Shiva, Gayaam, Kshana Kshanam (in Telugu), Satya, Company and Sarkar (in Hindi). He is great director.

Ram didn't take up Oosaravelli as the story was too heavy for him to handle, and wasn't ready for the 'narukudu' (massacre act). He says, "Oosaravelli got bigger and bigger after a point, I don't mind doing a subject like Jagadam where a 19 year old guy takes up violence and has a strong message towards the end." After Ganesh and Rama Rama Krishna Krishna, Ram has resolved not to go to the sets without a bound script, he gets shaky when story discussions take place after the shoot begins.

He takes complete blame for the film's debacle and hopes not to repeat such mistakes again, says at this point of time he should be working with experienced directors. Ram is leaving abroad next month for a song shoot that will be canned for ten days.

Teen Maar FACING Heavvvvy Loss in AP ?

** Powerstar Pawan Kalyan, Trisha, Kriti Karbanda starrer film ‘Teenmaar” have left the Nizam distributor with heavy loss.

** A popular distributioin company Multi Dimension P.Ltd.,has bought the distribution rights of this picture for the Nizam area for a sum of Rs.7.5cr and it comes to Rs.8.5cr if the cost of prints and publicities included. As per the trade pundits, this may collect the total revenue in Nizam about 4.5cr and left the distributor with Rs 4 Cr loss.

** Similarly in the West Godavari District also, it may collect Rs.80lakhs and leaving distributors in dark. The same trend continues in all other areas like this through out Andhra Pradesh then, as per the trade pundits analysis this picture revenues will be lesser than the { Pawan Kalyan’s Previous flop ‘Puli” } .So imagine yourself under which category this movie will fall in!

100 % Love' for May 1st week

Naga Chaitanya and Tamannah starrer 100 % Love is ready to hit the screens in the first week of May. Although the film's post-production is slightly delayed due to strike in the film industry, it is now gearing up for grand release. 

The film’s music has already been a hit as all numbers are catchy and peppy. Especially, the song of “Infatuation..” was a big hit in this album composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Sukumar directed movie while Bunny Vaas is the producer.

Ileana’s tension

Last year, she had flops with Rechchipo and Saleem and this year Shakti turned out to be another disaster in her career. 

Containing rate of flops is her urgent mission if she has to retain her position as numero uno actress. She now puts all hopes on her forthcoming films - Puri Jagannadh directed Nenu Naa Rakshasi (releasing on April 29) and Shankar directed Tamil film, Nanban (releasing in July/August).

Balakrishna to come as 'Mahadeva Naidu'?

Mahadeva Naidu is the title registered at Film Chamber of Commerce by banner Sri Keerthi Combines that is producing Balakrishna’s current film. Being directed by Parachuri Murali, the movie recently completed major part of the shooting before the strike is called on.

Balakrishna plays triple role in the movie and this is third time that he will be having ‘Naidu’ in a movie’s title. Narasinha Naidu was all time blockbuster, but Palanati Brahma Naidu was disaster. Bu the makers of the movie hope that it will be bigger hit than the Narasinha Naidu.

Strike called off; shootings to begin

More than 15 days later, producers and the cine workers have come to an agreement regarding hikes in payment. After days of negotiations between producers and Film Federation (that represents various bodies of 24 Crafts of the movie making), the final deal was done on Monday (April 25, 2011) and the strike was called off in the evening. From Tuesday, shootings would commence. An official statement was made on Monday evening.

Due to this strike, several big films were stalled including NTR’s Oosaravelli, Rajamouli's Eega, Mahesh Babu's Dhukudu etc. On April 7th the workers called on for strike and since then no shootings and post-production works are happening in Hyderabad.

Trivikram Srinivas is going to direct NTR Jr soon

Trivikram Srinivas is going to direct NTR Jr soon. The story discussions have been done recently and it was formally agreed that Tarak will be acting in a film directed by Trivikram. KL Narayana will produce this venture on Sri Durga Aarts banner.

This Project will go to floors by 2011 end or early 2012.

Ravi Teja Veera Shoot Completes by April 30

---]] Ravi Teja Veera Telugu movie shooting patch works starts tomorrow. Veera movie shooting in Hyderabad has been halted in Hyderabad because of the just concluded strike between the federation and Producers Council. Ravi Teja Veera movie unit has just returned after shooting a song between Ravi Teja and Taapsee in the beautiful locales of Mauritius for around 5 days. Shabina Khan has choreographed this song and surely you can expect few interesting movements from Ravi Teja and Taapsee.

Ram Charan’s 'Rachcha' from next week

Ram Charan is back from Mexico and will be joining the shoot of his new film titled Rachcha . He has developed huge muscles to look like a complete action hero in this new flick which is to be directed by Sampanth Nandi (of Emaindi Ee Vela fame). He went to Mexico to build up muscled body.

N V Prasad is producing the movie. The film was supposed to go to the sets on April 24th but it has got delayed due to strike in the film industry. Now, the movie will go to the sets in the first week of May.
